Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Was it Worth It?

While many women scrambled to get their designer-craving hands on some of the clothing, beauty and shoes from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale--was this huge mega clearance event worth the hype? Well, yes and no.

Many of the jackets, booties and fitness leggings were a decent deal. Overall, the shoes were priced to sell. For instance, the Steve Madden Tito sandals during the sale were $73 after the sale back to $109. While $40 is off is a great bargain, much of the selection was odds, ends and strange items. The Tito Steve Madden sandals are more of a rare occasion Las Vegas shoe and the other boots sold out or were still priced in an exorbitant range. Many bloggers and online shopaholics were excited to try some of the lace-up pullover sweaters and the layered ruffle cardigans but while these items seemed like a score--in-person they looked awkward, bulky and ill-fitting. How many times are you really going to wear a sweater with big drapey sleeves or a top with ridiculous repeating ruffles?

The boxy shape of the sweaters was not the only drawback to this much beloved blowout there were shift dresses that looked very thrifty in person and were too long in length to be a true style score. Many dresses were frumpy dumpy and the print so-so. The ruffle-overload was taken to new heights on things like this Pleione sleeve blouse which was maligned by reviewers who claimed the top was 'distracting, rough and needed a zipper.'

Many of the style seekers online were salivating over the clothing but when you get to it--is a oversized sweater or an unflattering blouse worth the fanfare? In day to day life how many women wear these types of trends? Most of the Nordstrom sale 'bargains' were a deal because they were leftovers with strange shapes and odd accents. The shoes were a hodgepodge of booties, loud heels and mules along with $90 Nikes--which is not really a WOW in terms of price.
