7 Yoga Poses to Help You Lose Weight

Yoga has many benefits from sculpting to stress relief, this ancient form of moving meditation is a must for those trying to shed a little weight. How does holding a few twisting poses really help the body get leaner and longer? Yoga helps speed detoxification along with building fat torching muscle and burning calories. In addition, yoga helps curb stress eating and lowers cortisol levels enough to sleep better and create less overall inflammation. Less stress means a more slim and trim body. Here are 7 Yoga Poses to Help You Lose Weight (hold each posture for 5 breaths):

1.) Boat Pose or Navasana

Sitting with the arms extended in the air as well as the feet creates a V-shape that will tone and tighten the abdominals, hip flexors and strengthen the back. With time a stronger core means better digestion, improved posture and flatter abs.

2.) Standing Forward Fold or Uttanasana

Besides relieving tension, activating the spine and strengthening the thighs and knees, a standing forward bend will stimulate the internal organs like the intestines, kidneys and liver which helps improve digestion and metabolism. Furthermore, additional blood flow to the head can alleviate depression and anxiety which in turn creates less overall stress. 




3.) Eagle Pose or Garudasana

For advanced yogis and newbies, eagle pose offers a slew of help benefits. By strengthening the ankles, wrists and hips, this pose creates a firmer foundation for building muscle and increasing endurance. By improving balance, this poses amps energy flow throughout the body and enhances flexibility. The act of twisting also 'wrings' out internal organs and can stimulate a sluggish lymphatic system to remove more waste. 



4.) Crow Pose or Crane Pose

A beneficial pose for the entire body, balancing on the arms creates a stronger and leaner silhouette. A pose which decreases acid reflux and heartburn, it strengthens the abdominal organs, thus, curing indigestion. Balancing like a bird also strengthens the inner thighs, flattens the belly and helps improve lower back pain.




5.) Foot Behind the Head Pose or Eka Pada Sirsasana

Increasing energy and balance while opening the thighs and groin, this ballet-like pose enhances symmetry in the body and revs circulation. More flexibility in the spine and legs promotes toning and lengthening which is perfect for achieving a sinewy frame. 



6.) One Legged Upward Bow or Urdhva Dhanurasana
